Gao Chi, secretary of the CPC Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) Committee, met the parents of new students to discuss university education and campus life on Aug 28.
Gao welcomed the parents and thanked them for choosing HZAU. He introduced the university's educational traditions, distinctive features and the beautiful and serene campus.
He encouraged the new students to engage in physical activities, appreciate and create art and participate in creative work to achieve their personal and social values.
He also stressed the importance of fostering independence in students, urging parents to create an environment that promotes independent thinking, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making.
He added that students should practice self-discipline, improve time management and develop interpersonal skills to build meaningful relationships.
During the meeting, which was held both online and offline, parents actively engaged with Gao on various topics such as academic development, career planning and technological innovation. He reassured parents of the university's commitment to nurturing students' innovative and critical thinking abilities through its robust research facilities and frequent academic exchange activities.
A parent of one student from the College of Biomedicine & Health asked how freshmen could quickly adapt to university learning and establish a research mindset. Gao responded by highlighting the university's focus on fostering innovation and critical thinking, providing equal opportunities and creating favorable conditions for students to realize their creative ideas.

The event concluded with an invitation from Gao for parents to enjoy a musical performance by the China National Opera House, soaking in HZAU's humanistic, open and liberal educational environment. He reiterated the university's educational philosophy of holistic development, which aims to nurture well-rounded individuals ready to contribute to national rejuvenation.
