The College of Public Administration began its history with the establishment of land resources management education in 1961. In September 2013, based on the development needs of the public administration discipline, the school merged the Department of Land Management, the Department of Information Management and the Institute of Higher Education to form the School of Public Administration.

The college currently offers four undergraduate majors: Land Resources Management, Engineering Management, Information Management and Information Systems, and Administrative Management. Among them, Land Resource Management, Information Management and Information Systems, and Engineering Management are national-level first-class undergraduate majors, and Administrative Management is the provincial first-class undergraduate major. It currently has a post-doctoral research station, a doctoral degree authorization point, a first-level discipline master's degree program, and a master's degree authorization point in the first-level discipline of Public Administration. In 2017, the Public Administration discipline was listed as Class B in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation.

It currently has 80 faculty members, including 18 professors. Among them are one Yangtze River Scholar, one Young Yangtze River Scholar, and scholars with other titles.

In the past five years, the college has undertaken more than 50 national-level scientific research projects. The teachers have published nearly 30 academic monographs, and have edited and published five national-level and high-quality teaching materials. It has built one Yangtze River Middle Reaches Survey and Monitoring Engineering Technology Innovation Center, Ministry of Natural Resources, one provincial key experimental teaching demonstration center, and one provincial level demonstration internship training base.
