The College of Resources & Environment originated from the Department of Agricultural Chemistry at Wuhan University, which was established in 1948. In 1952, the Department of Soil and Agricultural Chemistry of Huazhong Agricultural College was formed by merging relevant departments from the College of Agriculture at Wuhan University, Hubei Agricultural College, and Hunan Agricultural College. In 1997, it was renamed the Department of Resources, Environment, and Agricultural Chemistry, and in 2002, it became the College of Resources & Environment.
The college currently has 142 faculty and staff members, including 114 full-time teachers, among whom there are 40 professors and 70 associate professors. The college boasts one national outstanding teacher, four recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, and three scientists listed in the National Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System, as well as one national-level teaching team.
The college has two post-doctoral research stations, two doctoral programs of first-level disciplines, seven doctoral programs of second-level disciplines, 10 master's programs of second-level disciplines, as well as two provincial first-level key disciplines.
It offers six undergraduate programs, among which Agricultural Resources and Environment and Geographic Information Science are designated as national first-class undergraduate programs. Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, and Environmental Ecology Engineering (including Soil and Water Conservation) are designated as provincial first-class undergraduate programs.
