The 3rd Epidemiology Academic Symposium of the Animal Infectious Diseases Branch of the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine (CAAV) was held in Chengde, Hebei province, from Aug 17 to 19.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Chen Yingyu, an associate professor from the College of Animal Sciences & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) and the secretary of the Epidemiology Professional Group of the Animal Infectious Diseases Branch of the CAAV.
Liao Ming, vice-chairman of the CAAV, in his speech highlighted the importance of the conference in advancing the industry's development and tackling its challenges, hoping that it would improve China's animal epidemic disease prevention and control and promote the application of new technologies.
Guo Aizhen, a professor at the College of Animal Sciences & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine of HZAU, discussed the complexity and urgency of animal disease control from an epidemiological perspective. She encouraged researchers and entrepreneurs to strengthen collaboration, build consensus, and accelerate technological advancements and application of new technology into the industry.
The conference featured presentations ranging from discussing the current status and prevention strategies for highly pathogenic avian influenza in China to an overview of the practical applications of veterinary epidemiology in major animal disease control, as well as research on international methods for collecting and analyzing disease information from key animal disease control organizations.
Discussions were also held on using technology to ensure the health of both human beings and animals, the epidemiological status of major animal diseases, the reemergence and risk assessment of new diseases, the innovative use of big data and artificial intelligence in disease control, the regional cooperation mechanisms for joint prevention and the theory and practice of disease eradication.
Over 60 representatives from 60 universities, research institutes and enterprises nationwide participated in the symposium, with an additional 5,700 online viewers.
