A postgraduate student in the College of Fisheries of Huazhong Agricultural University completed a hematopoietic stem cell donation on Feb 12, becoming the 700th such donor in Hubei province.
During her college years, news of the unfortunate passing of a friend suffering from leukemia deeply moved her, prompting her to look into donating hematopoietic stem cells. In 2022, she signed up for the China Marrow Donor Program.
In November 2024, while attending a class, she received a call from the Red Cross Society of Guangdong province, informing her that she had been preliminarily matched with a patient. She instantly agreed to the donation request.
"Life is extremely precious, and being able to bring new hope to others is a very meaningful thing that requires no hesitation," she said.
With the support of her parents, she began to prepare. She adjusted her diet, maintained a regular schedule, and did everything possible to ensure her body was in the best possible condition for the donation.
On Feb 7, during the Chinese New Year holiday, she returned from her hometown to Wuhan and went straight to the hospital to start receiving mobilization injections and undergo other preparatory procedures.
As the 700th hematopoietic stem cell donor in Hubei province, the student expressed that she could inspire more people to join the volunteer team for donating hematopoietic stem cells, bringing hope to more people with blood diseases.
