In a report on CCTV, Yan Jianbing, member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of Huazhong Agricultural University, offered advice on the processing and application of high-protein corn, drawing on his research achievements.
Yan Jianbing's team recently pinpointed a crucial gene for reducing the moisture content of corn kernels, enabling swift dehydration of harvested corn kernels and thereby enhancing mechanized harvesting levels.
"High-protein corn is a pivotal objective for us, but the corn must also be high-yielding, suitable for mechanized harvesting, and possess a blend of excellent traits. We want it all." Yan said.
Ahead of the two sessions, referring to the annual sessions of the nation's top legislature and political advisory body, Yan journeyed to Hainan province to survey downstream businesses engaged in promoting and extending the high-protein corn industry chain. During his investigations, he observed that high-protein corn is currently intermixed, harvested, and stored alongside regular corn during the promotion process, and when processed in feed mills, it is combined with regular corn, preventing the value of high-protein corn from shining through.
At this year's Two Sessions, which is the nation’s biggest political event, Yan intends to concentrate on the industrial application of high-protein corn, advocating for the establishment of a standardized closed-loop industry chain that integrates planting, storage, and processing.
"We have just established an innovative research institute and a national industry innovation development alliance centered on high-yield, high-protein corn, with the goal of merging scientific and industrial innovation, hastening collaborative research, and commercializing research achievements," Yan added.
