In early March, Professor Jin Meilin, who had just been recognized as the "March 8 Red-banner Pacesetter of 2024" – the highest honor for Chinese women in Beijing, swiftly immersed herself in her work upon returning to Huazhong Agricultural University.
For over 40 years, Professor Jin has focused on addressing critical national needs related to zoonotic diseases and emerging infectious disease prevention and control. She has developed safe and efficient vaccines and biopharmaceuticals, as well as advanced early warning monitoring technologies and products, making outstanding contributions to animal disease prevention and control as well as veterinary public health safety.
She expressed her enthusiasm for her career, saying "Give me another 20 or 30 years, and I will still be passionately dedicated to my work."
Jin's achievements stem from her unwavering perseverance and tenacity. Over the past four decades, she has mentored over 150 master's, doctoral students, and postdoctoral scholars.
She encourages her students to explore and innovate, integrating theory and practice to drive the transformation of scientific research achievements into real-word applications that genuinely serve the needs of industries and society.
"As long as what we do benefits the country, social and economic development, human health, and talent cultivation, we should be decisive, courageous, daring and responsible," she said.
