The 8th Mathematics Culture Festival, organized by the College of Informatics at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), commenced on March 14, the sixth International Day of Mathematics.
During the opening ceremony, Li Dapeng, vice president of HZAU, remarked that this year's festival centers on mathematics and AI, underlining their pivotal role in propelling technological advancements and societal progress.
Following the opening ceremony, Professor Peng Shuangjie, president of Central China Normal University, was invited to deliver a keynote speech. He started with a discussion of the intimate connection between the golden ratio and daily life, alongside the Fibonacci sequence, and showed the aesthetic allure of the golden ratio in mathematics. By intertwining the narrative of Carl Friedrich Gauss and the regular 17-gon, he revealed the mathematical elegance inherent in compass-and-straightedge construction. He said that geometric quandaries like compass-and-straightedge construction can be resolved through algebraic methods, further underscoring the importance of interdisciplinary amalgamation in the realm of mathematics.
From March 14 to Oct 24, the College of Informatics will roll out activities such as the DeepSeek series posters, a mathematical mystery exploration, and academic lectures. Throughout the event, the college will also collaborate with the Hubei Science and Technology Museum to unveil interactive activities for real-world decryption. Moreover, the DeepSeek series posters will embark on a tour of the Hubei Science and Technology Museum.
