A grand art festival opened on May 24 at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), marked by the vibrant Blossoms of May choral competition. This year's festival, with the tagline "fusion in all things", celebrates the integration of science and art, teachers and students, tradition and innovation, and East and West.
Over the course of a month, the festival is featuring more than 40 high-quality cultural and artistic events across nine categories. Highlights include an original music concert, a creative camp, the "Ocean of Classics" international art appreciation series, faculty-student art performances, art salons, and a special exhibition of ancient Chinese paintings.
In his opening remarks, Gao Chi, Party secretary of HZAU, emphasized that cultural advancement is fundamental to national development. He underscored the importance of combining science and art to achieve the national goals for 2035 — building a strong nation in education, science, talent, culture, sports, and health.
"Education ultimately comes down to cultivating character, taste, and academic spirit," he said.
The university's choir delivered a powerful finale with performances of Wish and We Are the World, weaving Eastern grace into a message that resonated worldwide.
Jiang Mengting and Zhang Keyi, students from the business administration class of 2401, said that months of rehearsals fostered deep teamwork and personal growth, noting the profound emotional and developmental impact of art education.
