Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) hosted the 10th South Lake Forum for International Young Scholars from May 28 to 29, attracting nearly 400 applicants worldwide. Sixty outstanding young scholars participated both online and offline, engaging in academic exchanges and discussions on cutting-edge research.
At the opening ceremony, Yang Shaobo, vice-president of HZAU, extended a warm welcome to participants and introduced the university's efforts to foster a supportive environment for global talent. He highlighted HZAU's commitment to empowering young scholars through strong research platforms, stable funding, efficient resource allocation, comprehensive support systems, and high-quality living conditions.
"HZAU is eager to attract talented individuals and serve as a springboard for their growth," Yang said. "We sincerely invite like-minded scholars to join us in contributing to national development and rejuvenation."
Addressing topics young researchers care deeply about, professor Yan Wenhao from the College of Plant Science & Technology shared 10 small but meaningful milestones since returning to China in 2019. With guidance and institutional support, he successfully shifted his research direction and built a thriving wheat research team.
Professor Zhao Ling from HZAU's College of Animal Science & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine emphasized mission-driven research focused on national priorities. He advocated persistence and organized collaboration, noting his team's commitment to advancing rabies virus research for public health.
The forum featured 17 breakout sessions, where invited scholars presented their work, visited research platforms, and held in-depth discussions with faculty and student researchers.
