A delegation of students and faculty from the Joint Institute of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) and Lincoln University embarked on a summer study tour at Lincoln University in New Zealand from Aug 4 to 15.
During the exchange, the group attended courses on subjects such as plant science, international marketing, and horticultural management. They also participated in lectures covering hot topics such as cutting-edge agricultural technology, food science, and renewable energy.
In addition, the group toured Lincoln University's vineyards and winemaking laboratory, where they tasted wines produced by the university's faculty and students, and analyzed how grape varieties, storage years, and brewing techniques influence wine flavors.
They also observed the use of solar and biomass energy at the university's campus farm, gaining insights into the role of sustainable technologies in agricultural transformation.
Beyond academics, the group explored the Canterbury Museum, the Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, and Castle Hill, enriching their cross-cultural experience.
At the closing ceremony, Professor Grant Edwards, president of Lincoln University, praised the HZAU students for their strong learning abilities and cross-cultural competence, and highlighted the joint efforts of two universities in cultivating top-tier international talent.
Wang Fei, dean of the Joint Institute of Huazhong Agricultural University and Lincoln University, noted that the exchange not only enhanced students' expertise in horticulture, agricultural economics, and ecology but also laid a solid foundation for future collaboration between the two universities in research and talent development.
