A practice team from the College of Life Science & Technology at Huazhong Agricultural University visited Yichang, Hubei province, from July 27 to 29 to support migrant children and study the region's Three Gorges culture. Over three days, the team engaged with local children aged 5-15 and conducted research on the intangible cultural heritage of the Tujia ethnic group.
On July 27, the team organized a public welfare study tour at the Three Gorges Airport research base. Forty-four children participated in the immersive experience, observing aircraft, trying out flight simulators, attending environmental lectures, and assembling airplane models. These activities gave them a close-up look at cutting-edge aviation technology.
The following day, the team went to Changliulu community to learn about the challenges faced by local migrant children. They then volunteered at the community's summer daycare, patiently helping students with their homework and playing board games. Through these acts of kindness, the team members built a rapport with the children and gained a deep appreciation for the importance of community service.
On July 29, the team visited the Three Gorges Tribe scenic area for an in-depth study tour. They interviewed three types of local professionals, discussing the evolution of Tujia music, traditional lifestyles, and the preservation of marriage customs. This provided valuable insight into the cultural heritage of the Tujia ethnic group and their traditions.
