From Aug 17 to 24, a delegation of over 20 faculty and students from the College of Animal Sciences & Technology/College of Veterinary Medicine at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), led by Professor Liu Huazhen, conducted a research exchange trip to Al-Azhar University in Egypt. The visit focused on key areas such as animal vaccine research, livestock production, and sustainable agriculture, aiming to strengthen talent exchange and scientific cooperation between China and Egypt in the agricultural sector.
Professor Salama Dawood, President of Al-Azhar University, extended a warm welcome to the delegation, expressing his hope for deeper collaboration between the two institutions. During the trip, Professor Liu was invited to speak at the Bosla Career Conference 2025 held at Al-Azhar University, where she shared HZAU's advancements in agriculture and veterinary medicine and invited Egyptian scholars to visit China for further exchange.
The delegation also visited the Egypt Agricultural Research Center and its affiliated institutes, including the Animal Health Research Institute, Animal Reproduction and Breeding Institute, and the Veterinary Serum and Vaccine Research Institute.
At the Animal Health Research Institute, the team toured key biosafety laboratories and food testing facilities, discussing the prevalence and diagnosis of infectious diseases such as avian influenza and brucellosis. They also exchanged ideas on disease control, animal food safety, and cutting-edge scientific research.
The delegation also paid a visit to the Egyptian branch of New Hope Liuhe, a prime example of Sino-Egyptian agricultural cooperation, to gain practical insights into the local livestock and poultry industry.
