The 2025 Global Food Security Forum for Young Scientists was held in Shanghai from Oct 20 to 22, serving as a significant side event of the 23rd Conference of International Exchange of Professionals. The forum brought together young scientists from around the world to discuss cross-disciplinary approaches to global food security governance.
Vice President Yang Shaobo of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) attended the opening ceremony on Oct 21. He emphasized that food security is essential for human survival and global peace, recognizing China's vital role in its maintenance. He called on the global youth to strengthen cooperation, focusing on key issues like supply, nutritional health, and agricultural sustainability, thus contributing to a shared future for humanity.
A key highlight of the forum was the release of digital governance achievements in global food security. Professor Xiong Hang from the College of Economics & Management at HZAU introduced the AgLAMP (Agricultural LArge Model for Policies), a knowledge-driven and data-driven framework that simulates multi-dimensional individual decision-making, providing precise prior assessment tools for agricultural policy. At the same time, Professor Li Jian unveiled a Food Market Forecasting and Warning System, which accurately predicts the yield and price of key crops like corn by integrating multi-dimensional data.
During the project roadshow, HZAU presented its proprietary innovations, including a new black rice variety, multi-functional cotton, a high-yield/high-protein machine-harvestable corn, and advanced citrus cultivation techniques. These developments attracted significant interest among attendees due to their technical ingenuity and practical application potential.
