Professor Raymond Geor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Massey University in New Zealand, led a delegation to Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) from Oct 23 to 24 to discuss advancing their joint program in animal science and expanding cooperation in agriculture and veterinary fields.
On Oct 23, HZAU Vice President Qing Ping welcomed the delegation and reviewed the strong partnership history, which dates back to the 1980s. He highlighted the successful faculty exchanges, research collaboration, and joint student training initiatives. He proposed using the animal science cooperative program as a starting point to integrate both universities' high-quality resources. The goal is to jointly develop curricula and build faculty teams, focusing on cultivating competitive and interdisciplinary professionals.
Professor Geor expressed gratitude to HZAU for the warm reception and praised the university's academic and research excellence in agriculture and animal science. He affirmed Massey University's full support to actively push for the prompt implementation of the joint animal science program.
The following day, both parties engaged in practical discussions on specific details, including curriculum alignment, quality assurance, and student training, reaching several key agreements.
During their visit, the delegation toured several key HZAU facilities, including the teaching animal hospital, the Specimen Museum, research platforms, the Swine Biological Breeding Innovation Platform, and the Laboratory Animal Center. These visits provided a comprehensive overview of HZAU's achievements and infrastructure in animal science and smart farming.
