Thirteen postgraduate students from the College of Fisheries at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) recently attended the 2nd International Conference of Innovative Aquaculture in Thailand, where they secured 11 awards and honors.
HZAU doctoral candidates Xiong Ningxia, Huang Yuwei, and Liu Chenxu, along with master's students Zhang Yan and Chang Wenqi, gave oral presentations. Their topics covered essential areas, including immune mechanisms in hemolytic diseases, gene editing in quality fish breeding, metabolic regulation of fat sources in farmed fish, physiological mechanisms of fish hypoxia tolerance, and pathogenesis/control of fish viruses. These presentations shared the college's original research findings and advancements.
The other eight postgraduate students presented posters on research areas such as fish immunology and disease prevention, aquaculture environmental governance, breeding technologies, and pathogen regulation, showcasing work with theoretical novelty and practical application.
During the visit, the delegation toured Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Agriculture, including its biochemical laboratories and aquaculture facilities. They gained firsthand experience with international research equipment, such as fully automated sample pre-treatment systems, learning about their efficiency in tasks like active compound extraction and contaminant quantification. They also observed green innovation models, including circulating water aquaculture demonstration systems and standardized seedling cultivation processes.
