On Dec 31, Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) inaugurated the College of Bio-X. President Yan Jianbing, serving as its dean, outlined a visionary framework centered on national strategy and the integrated development of education, technology, and talent.
The College of Bio-X rests on three conceptual pillars: deep integration, twin core engines, and three key mechanisms. Yan emphasized that the alliance between the college and Hubei Hongshan Laboratory is a "chemical fusion" rather than a mere physical merger. This partnership ensures that strategies, resources, tasks, and personnel are seamlessly unified to drive organized scientific research.
Driven by project-based initiatives and AI empowerment, the college aims to dismantle traditional academic silos. It will implement a contribution-oriented, multi-dimensional evaluation system that prioritizes innovation and ability. This structural shift is designed to make the college an innovation source for global biological breeding and agricultural synthetic biology.
The College of Bio-X is positioned to lead disciplinary reform by deepening the integration of industry and education. Through international cooperation and world-class talent, the college strives to become a global hub for life sciences. Ultimately, this new institution serves as a strategic engine for high-quality agricultural development, national food security, and health through scientific breakthroughs.
