On Feb 3, Dr Rebecca Parkes, executive manager of Chinese mainland veterinary affairs at the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), led a delegation to visit the College of Animal Sciences & Technology and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU). The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation in veterinary education and research.
During the meeting, Dr Parkes outlined HKJC's mission to support the development of equine veterinary expertise in the Chinese mainland. She praised HZAU for its significant achievements in scientific research and its commitment to internationalization.
Peng Guiqing, executive dean of the college, responded by reviewing the successful history of cooperation between the two institutions. The leaders engaged in detailed discussions regarding future collaborative frameworks, focusing specifically on high-level talent cultivation and the establishment of regular exchange mechanisms.
The delegation also conducted a comprehensive tour of HZAU's facilities, including the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the Metaverse classroom, and various advanced research platforms. A key part of the tour involved inspecting the usage of portable X-ray and ultrasound equipment previously donated by the HKJC.
To further promote academic engagement, Dr Parkes delivered a specialized lecture titled Diagnosis and Treatment of Equine Tendon and Ligament Injuries. By sharing insights into pathological mechanisms and clinical protocols, she provided valuable expertise to HZAU faculty and students.
This visit serves as a cornerstone for future joint efforts in cutting-edge equine research and the co-development of clinical diagnostic platforms, ensuring a robust pipeline for future veterinary professionals.
