A delegation from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in Spain visited Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) on April 24 to explore collaborations in veterinary medicine, life sciences, and talent development.
Founded in 1499, UCM is one of Spain's largest and most prestigious public universities, renowned globally for its medical and veterinary programs.
During the symposium, Zeng Hongxia, director of HZAU's International Cooperation and Exchanges Office, welcomed the delegation. Zeng stated that both universities have strengths in veterinary medicine and share a vision aligned with the global One Health strategy. She expressed hope for setting up a long-term platform to jointly advance animal and public health.
Juan Carlos, leader of the delegation, outlined UCM's academic profile and expressed interest in broadening cooperation through joint degree programs, faculty exchanges, and research projects to strengthen higher education ties between China and Spain.
Representatives from HZAU's College of Animal Science and Technology and College of Life Science and Technology also outlined prospective frameworks for collaboration. The two sides reached a preliminary consensus on sharing academic resources and joint undergraduate and graduate training.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured HZAU's veterinary teaching hospital and the animal specimen museum. The guests praised the university's clinical teaching facilities, digital education applications, and research platforms.
