A delegation from the 2026 World Youth Development Forum visited Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) in Hubei province on June 15, gaining a closer look at the university's research strength, biodiversity education and agricultural innovation.
The forum opened in Wuhan that morning, bringing together about 500 representatives from more than 120 countries, including officials from United Nations agencies, youth ministers and youth organization leaders. During the event, HZAU hosted a study visit for international youth delegates.
The group first toured the university museum, where volunteers guided them through six exhibition halls covering wild animals, plants and geology. Specimens of rare and endangered animals, including Chinese sturgeon, Chinese alligators and giant salamanders, drew strong interest.
Galib, a youth representative from Bangladesh, praised China's conservation efforts, saying the country had done an excellent job in protecting these species.
Delegates also joined hands-on activities such as miniature ecosystem bottle-making, flower arrangement and making do-it-youtself herbal sachets.
"Today's exhibition and experiences were very interesting," said Mapias, a youth representative from Ghana, adding the visit deepened his understanding of China's biodiversity and how it strikes a balance between harmony between humanity and nature.
At Hubei Hongshan Laboratory, delegates learned about whole-grain black rice, Wuchang fish without intermuscular bones and high-yield, high-protein corn. They also viewed an automated gene-testing production line that can improve breeding efficiency by 60 percent.
