Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) alumnus Khalid Mehmood has received Pakistan's Best Young Researcher Award, recognizing his contributions to veterinary sciences and animal disease prevention.
The award was presented at a national research awards ceremony in Islamabad organized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, chairman of the commission, presented Mehmood with an honorary certificate and prize. The award honors young researchers with a strong academic output and research impact.
Mehmood earned his doctorate in clinical veterinary medicine from HZAU in 2019. From 2016 to 2019, he studied under Professor Li Jiakui, relying on the university's veterinary science platform to conduct research on animal disease prevention and control. During his time at HZAU, he also helped organize academic exchanges and supported services for international students.
After returning to Pakistan, Mehmood continued his research as an assistant professor at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He has published more than 150 SCI-indexed papers, with a total impact factor of 610, 6,212 citations and an H-index of 37. He has also led two Pakistan government-funded research projects and supervised 15 graduate students.
Mehmood said his doctoral years at HZAU were invaluable, adding the university's research platforms, training environment and patient guidance laid a solid foundation for his academic career.
