A delegation from Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), led by Vice-President Li Dapeng, visited the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) and China's permanent mission to the UN food and agriculture agencies in Rome from July 6 to 10. The trip was aimed at deepening cooperation in global agricultural development and promoting the university's innovations worldwide.
During the visit, the delegation held discussions with FAO officials on South–South cooperation, agricultural biotechnology, animal health and public health, green plant protection, aquatic genetic breeding, and support for youth and women in agriculture.
The delegation also met with Zhang Lubiao, China's ambassador and permanent representative to the UN food and agriculture agencies. Li introduced HZAU's strengths in talent cultivation, scientific research, and international cooperation. He said HZAU would leverage its expertise in aquatic breeding, green plant protection, and livestock health to support global agricultural innovation.
At an FAO expert seminar on aquatic genetic resources protection and sustainable aquaculture, HZAU shared its experience in aquatic breeding innovation and sustainable resource use.
The visit strengthened links between HZAU's research capabilities and the FAO's priorities in areas including fisheries, biotechnology, animal health, and sustainable agriculture, laying the foundation for future cooperation.
