Students from the Joint Institute of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) and Lincoln University visited Lincoln University in New Zealand from July 6 to 17 for a two-week study program themed on sustainability.

The program covered academic sessions, course observations and industry visits. Students discussed global carbon emissions, low-carbon energy transitions and agricultural economics. They also compared environmental and carbon-reduction practices in China and New Zealand.

At Lincoln University, students examined rooftop solar power systems and clean heating technologies used on campus. They also joined sessions on sensory science and winemaking and attended classes in agribusiness strategy, environmental analysis, and sustainability.

Field visits extended the program beyond the classroom. At a modern greenhouse, students learned about automated temperature control and plant breeding. They also took part in soil and geological fieldwork and observed native New Zealand plants to better understand their winter growth, ecological adaptations and cold tolerance.

Lincoln University vice-chancellor Grant Edwards said the visit would enhance collaboration in education and academic exchange. During the closing ceremony, Provost Chad Hewitt also expressed support for increasing two-way student exchanges between the institutions.
