A student delegation from Huazhong Agricultural University recently completed a four-day tour of international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, visiting key institutions including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
At the ISO and WTO headquarters, the students gained firsthand insights into how global standards and trade rules are formulated. Through in-depth briefings and interactive discussions, members learned that international regulations emerge from rigorous negotiations balancing national interests with global public welfare.
During exchanges with officials, students actively raised critical questions regarding crisis response mechanisms and technological fairness in the digital age. Addressing digital divides, officials emphasized opening computing resources and open-source models to ensure developing nations share in the benefits of AI.
Post-visit surveys revealed a significant shift in student awareness. While over half initially lacked familiarity with China's role in international standard-setting, all participants reported better understanding of international rules and governance frameworks afterwards, expressing a strong commitment to engaging in global governance affairs.
Team leader Tian Xinyu noted that the immersive journey gave the students a clearer understanding of their role in global governance. The delegation aims to continue leveraging professional expertise in cross-cultural dialogues, amplifying young voices on the global stage.
