In July, a practice team from College of Animal Science & Technology and College of Veterinary Medicine at Huazhong Agricultural University participated in a summer program in Wuhan, Hubei province. Focusing on the commercialization of domestic pet vaccine innovations, the team explored how scientific achievements move from laboratories to the market and society through enterprise research, laboratory learning, market surveys, and community science activities.
The students visited the pet R&D center of Keqian Pet, a subsidiary of Wuhan Keqian Biology, as well an exhibition hall and diagnostic center to observe pathogen and antibody testing procedures. During a seminar, Luo Qiong, general manager of Keqian Pet, encouraged students to experience industry operations firsthand. The team also attended an academic symposium to examine cutting-edge developments in veterinary medicine.
To understand market promotion, the team collected 158 questionnaires across Wuhan commercial districts and interviewed professionals at various pet clinics. They discovered that while domestic research capabilities are advancing, brand recognition challenges and profit margins still influence clinical adoption.
Translating findings into action, the students hosted science workshops at local communities, educating children on cat behavior, care, and vaccination through interactive games and crafts. This demonstrated how academic research ultimately safeguards animal health and serves social development.
