Over 50 journalists from national and local media outlets visited Hongshan Laboratory in Hubei province on Sept 15 for the "vibrant China reporting tour". Accompanied by university leaders and provincial officials, the reporters engaged directly with local experts, including academicians Zhang Qifa, Fu Tingdong, and Jin Meilin.
The delegation toured exhibition halls and research facilities, receiving briefings on the laboratory's operational goals and representative achievements. Leading researchers detailed breakthrough advancements spanning rapeseed breeding, biological agents, rice, tomatoes, swine, citrus, and maize. Media representatives focused their interviews on innovations like black rice and premium tomato varieties.
Established in February 2021 and spearheaded by Huazhong Agricultural University, Hubei Hongshan Laboratory focuses on bio-breeding, genetic improvement, and securing core seed independence to safeguard national food security and promote sustainable agriculture.
Part of a nationwide campaign spotlighting high-quality development and the goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), this leg highlighted Hubei's scientific contributions to modern agriculture.
