Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) offered a unique farewell gift on June 22 to its class of 2025 — the Shizi Mountain healthy graduation lunch, made entirely from the university's signature agricultural research achievements. At the graduation ceremony, President Yan Jianbing invited students to taste the results of HZAU's cutting-edge innovations.
Lunch was served in three campus canteens. Featured on students' plates were eight research-based food products: black rice, sweet corn, mustard greens, crayfish, and more.

"These dishes are the result of years of dedication and wisdom from HZAU scientists," said graduate Ye Huipeng. "It's both a heartfelt gift and a legacy of the university's spirit."
Each item reflected a scientific success. The black rice, developed by academician Zhang Qifa's team, is rich in protein and anthocyanins. Crayfish, farmed under an eco-friendly rice-shrimp model, symbolized harmony with nature. Professor Gu Zemao encouraged students to maintain such balance in life, wishing them "a bright and thriving future".
Professor Gao Zexia's team provided 1,200 boneless Wuchang fish, cultivated using gene identification techniques. "Science opens doors to a better life," she told students.
Behind the scenes, logistics teams worked tirelessly to prepare the meal in just four days. "We poured our hearts into every detail," said Zhang Chunying, deputy director of logistics. "We hope students eat well today — and continue to care for themselves in the future."
