Ten students and faculty members from the College of Life Science and Technology at Huazhong Agricultural University recently participated in the "Chemistry of Life" international summer program at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
The course aimed to broaden students' international perspectives and improve their scientific research skills. The program gathered over 100 students and faculty from six universities, including Zhejiang University and Fudan University.
The two-week program featured a blend of classes, hands-on experiments, group discussions, and lab tours. Each morning, renowned professors from NUS's Department of Biological Sciences delivered engaging English-language classes on topics such as molecular cloning, gene editing, and genomics. The professors simplified complex theories and used humor to guide students through the latest scientific trends.
In the afternoons, students from various majors, including life sciences, basic medicine, pharmacy, and chemistry, formed experimental groups to conduct lab work on molecular cloning and protein expression. These practical sessions allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge and discuss their findings.
The participants also toured several of NUS's research centers and advanced labs, gaining a deeper understanding of research models and popular topics at international universities. The program included academic exchange sessions where students from different universities shared their research and learning experiences.
The course concluded with the students impressing their peers and professors from NUS and other universities with a variety of acts, including martial arts, popular dances, and a chorus.
