Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) held its 10th Fishery Culture Festival on Nov 9 at the aquaculture teaching and research base. The event included six main sections, such as an aquascaping competition, a fishing contest, a full fish feast cooking challenge, and exhibits of cultural and creative works.
In the aquascaping competition, students worked together to design a variety of miniature underwater landscapes using materials like aquatic plants, driftwood, and stones. The venue was filled with creative energy as teams crafted their intricate worlds of detailed craftsmanship.
The aquaculture processing workshop was equally lively during the culinary contest. Competitors prepared ingredients and demonstrated their cooking skills using various techniques. Chefs focused on braised dishes controlled the caramelization and final reduction, while those preparing steamed fish precisely timed the cooking process. Others expertly managed oil temperatures for frying, ensuring crispy skin and tender flesh.
Despite the rainy weather, the fishing contest proceeded with enthusiasm. Participants demonstrated skill, from baiting to casting. The heavy catches brought great joy, highlighting the unique pleasure of the sport and the tranquil harmony between people, fish, and nature.
In the Cultural and Creative Works section, displays included artistic creations using fish bones, original photography, and unique animated IP designs. The popular creative showcase, along with an engaging raffle, successfully energized and involved the students.
