To celebrate the 2026 International Women's Day on March 8, a city walk was held in Wuchang district, Wuhan. The event was hosted by the College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences, the Academy of Science and Technology Development of Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), and the Female Landscape Architects Branch of the Landscape Architecture Society of Hubei Province.
Around 9 am, nearly 80 HZAU faculty members, their families, and female landscape architects gathered at the monument of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge and started a 2.2-kilometer walk. The route connected several landmarks, including the Wuchang Riverside, Hanyangmen Garden, Doujiying block, and Hubu Lane, which show the integration of historic districts, urban life and waterfront landscapes in the city.
Along the route, participants observed examples of urban renewal and landscape design. At the Doujiying block, project designers introduced the ideas behind the renewal of the historic alley, which sparked discussions on how to balance preservation and redevelopment in old neighborhoods.
Long Jianfei, Party secretary of the College of Horticulture and Forestry Sciences, noted that the event offered a meaningful holiday activity for female staff. Zhao Hui, head of the Office of Education and Training, added that it also provided an opportunity for professional exchange and interaction with industry experts.
The event also improved cooperation between HZAU and professional associations in promoting the development of landscape architecture.
