Faculty members and students from Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) visited Hubei Hvsen Biotechnology Co Ltd on March 21 to gain first-hand knowledge of its biomanufacturing and industry practices. Organized by the College of Bio-X, the visit brought together some 60 participants.
During a symposium, a company representative introduced the firm's development and core technologies. Students engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics, including essential skills for undergraduates, industry–academia collaboration models, the integration of synthetic biology and artificial intelligence, and policy support for the biomanufacturing sector.
In response, company experts shared their experience in engineering various strains, process optimization and technology transfer. They said the industry demands interdisciplinary talent with solid academic foundations, good teamwork skills and innovative thinking.
The delegation then toured the company's exhibition hall, synthetic biology laboratories, and smart production lines for active pharmaceutical ingredients and sterile injectables. The introduction offered a comprehensive view of the entire process, from laboratory research to industrial application.
Students said the visit enhanced their understanding of how advanced technologies are applied in actual production, boosting their confidence to delve deeper into their respective majors. They also observed that the combination of intelligent technologies and biomanufacturing has opened up new opportunities for future career paths.
The event is part of the university's broader efforts to promote industry–university–research collaboration and improve practical training through a series of academic and innovation-focused programs.
