Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) hosted a series of events to celebrate World Veterinary Day on April 25. The activities aimed to improve public understanding of the veterinary profession and raise awareness of animal welfare.
The events included science education, professional practices, and animal welfare initiatives, which created a platform that connected the veterinary field with the public and inspired students to pursue careers in animal health.
At the university's veterinary teaching hospital, students participated in daily clinical operations, including outpatient consultations and case management. They also received training in advanced imaging technologies such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as well as traditional Chinese veterinary practices such as acupuncture.
At the animal specimen museum, participants studied various animal specimens to better understand animal anatomy and physiology. Interactive activities, such as disease identification games and pet behavior quizzes, helped turn textbook knowledge into practical skills.
Further enriching the experience were hands-on sessions about tying knots, surgical tying and suturing, assembling animal skeletons, and learning about traditional Chinese veterinary medicine.
A pet interaction and free clinic session provided health checkups and care guidance for both common and exotic pets. A nutrition area introduced various dairy products and addressed misconceptions about lactose intolerance.
Outside the campus, participants paid tribute to experimental animals during a memorial ceremony, and some volunteered at a local zoo to promote wildlife conservation.
