A creative art exhibition at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) is taking microscopic images out of the lab and into everyday life. Scientific observations are now cultural and creative products through artificial intelligence and design.
The exhibition, titled Micro Vision: Seeing Science Through Creative Art, opened at the university's art gallery on April 25. It features entries from a microscopic imaging competition at HZAU, transforming scientific images into 264 cultural and creative products across 14 categories, including frisbees, skateboards, T-shirts, scarves, umbrellas, cushions, cups, and bookmarks.
Feng Nan, director of the office of cultural development at HZAU, stated that the exhibition aims to create an open and integrated display space that removes the boundary between laboratory and art gallery. By merging life sciences with creative art, the exhibition provides an immersive experience and showcases the university's latest effort to deepen the integration of innovative culture and academic culture.
Many of the works originate from microscopic images of cells, microorganisms, plant textures, rocks, and fossils. For Luo Changli, a postgraduate student from the College of Resources and Environment, seeing her microscopic imaging work transformed into products such as T-shirts, mugs, and bookmarks was a new experience.
"Science and art are not only romantic in the laboratory. They can also bring small moments of beauty into daily life," she said.
Through images, AI-generated designs, installations, and interactive displays, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the beauty of life sciences and explore new connections between scientific research and artistic expression.
