Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) launched its 2026 Shishan Art Festival and hosted the "May Flower Sea" chorus competition on May 17, blending aesthetic education, campus culture, and youthful expression.
Party Secretary Yao Jianglin and Deputy Party Secretary Li Xiangdong attended along with representatives from various departments and colleges, faculty, and students.
In his speech, Yao said culture is the soul of a country and a nation, serving as a source of innovation. He said HZAU has developed a unique culture over its 128-year history, including the spirit of "diligent study and earnest practice, self-cultivation and helping others".
This year's festival, themed "art nourishing the journey to the stars", aims to use art to enrich students' minds, inspire innovation, and strengthen cultural confidence. Yao encouraged students to connect with nature through art, combine science with creativity, and confidently share the stories of HZAU and China.
Li presented plaques to the first "Shishan Aesthetics" practice bases, located at the university library, the College of Fisheries, and the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences. The month-long festival will include exhibitions, scriptwriting contests, art appreciation events, performances, and salons.
Following the ceremony, 15 college teams participated in the chorus competition. The College of Economics & Management and the College of Resources & Environment won first prizes.
