Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) and Lincoln University celebrated the 2026 intake of their joint institute on Sept 2, hosting an inspiring convocation at the activity center in HZAU.
Vice-President Qing Ping of HZAU and Vice-President Damian Lodge of Lincoln University attended alongside academic leaders, faculty, and visiting students. The ceremony opened with some cultural performances, blending Peking opera, traditional Maori songs, and choral numbers to symbolize cross-cultural harmony.
Addressing the assembly, Qing urged freshmen to anchor themselves in their Chinese roots while embracing a more global outlook, encouraging them to address world challenges through interdisciplinary innovation and civic responsibility. Echoing this sentiment, Damian Lodge welcomed students into a global "whānau", advising them to prioritize wellness, seek peer support, and cultivate resilience amid academic adjustments.
Student representatives — including freshman Qin Huixian, sophomore Xu Boyang, and visiting student Beaulah Pragg — shared insights from their academic journeys, emphasizing the value of stepping outside comfort zones, engaging in active dialogue, and leveraging international platforms.
The event featured vibrant cultural performances, including a traditional Peking Opera showcase and Maori choral harmonies.
The ceremony culminated with students proudly wearing their institute badges, followed by a lively networking reception where faculty and students celebrated the start of an enriching academic journey.
