The library has six departments and one office, namely the Resource Construction Department, Literature Borrowing Department, Information Consultation Department (including the Education Department's Science and Technology Retrieval Workstation, N07), Technical Support Department, Publicity and Promotion Department, Special Collection Department, and the General Office.

The library is well-equipped with both hardware and software programs, offering over 2,000 reading seats. Facilities such as self-service book borrowing machines, self-service book return machines, electronic bulletin screens, newspaper readers, and multimedia query machines are provided in the hall. The library has official accounts on Sina Weibo and WeChat public platforms, facilitating timely updates for faculty and students about library news and providing quick access to resources.

In 2007, the library became the first among agricultural and forestry universities nationwide to introduce the SCI database and established the SCI Service Center. In 2015, a Science and Technology Intelligence Service Team was formed to enhance personalized services and discipline analysis based on SCI.

By 2022, the library's collection includes more than 2.117 million physical documents, with over 1,503 current periodicals in print, 221 databases, 1.069 million electronic books, and more than 1.577 million electronic journals. The collection spans various disciplines such as agriculture, life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, humanities, law, economics, and management, forming a diversified information guarantee system with agricultural and life science literature as its highlight, complemented by traditional and electronic resources.

In 2019, it was approved to establish the Huazhong Agricultural University Intellectual Property Information Service Center. In 2021, it successfully entered the ranks of the National Intellectual Property Information Service Center for universities. The library has been recognized as a national "Advanced Unit in Nationwide Reading," "Outstanding Library in Hubei Province," a B-level member of the CALIS Chinese Joint Cataloging (one of three B-level member libraries in the central China region), an excellent library in Hubei province's "Library Automation Evaluation", one of Wuhan City's "Top Ten Bookish Campuses", and one of the "Top Ten Reading Promotion Bases" in Hongshan district.

In the future, the library will continue to closely align with the university's goals, and build itself into a center for literature information, academic exchange, knowledge service, public culture, learning support, and campus-based research center.
