The continuing education program at Huazhong Agricultural University began in the early 1950s, initially focusing on short-term training courses for government management departments. In 1960, the university established a correspondence department, marking the beginning of its history in higher agricultural correspondence education. The college has been approved for more than 10 types of training bases, including the National Science and Technology Special Commissioner Entrepreneurship Training Base, National Professional and Technical Personnel Continuing Education Base, National Vocational Education 'Double-Teacher' Teacher Training Base, National Aquatic Technology Promotion Personnel Training Base, Agricultural Vocational and Technical Education Training Demonstration Base, Ministry of Agriculture Modern Agricultural Technology Training Base, and Hubei Province Cadre Education and Training University Base.
In 2019, the university underwent a restructuring of its management and service institutions, and the Continuing Education College was renamed the Education and Training College. The college primarily undertakes the functions of adult undergraduate and specialty higher correspondence education, and self-study exams for higher education. It offers 27 undergraduate majors for adult higher education.
Aligned with the university's development goals, the college consistently integrates lifelong education into its education and training work. It conducts various training programs for party and government officials, enterprise leaders, professional and technical personnel, and leaders in rural industry revitalization. In the course of training, the college has built a networked, digitized, intelligent, personalized, and lifelong education and training system, improved the lifelong learning service platform, and embarked on a path of high-quality and connotative development.
